Goal-setting
Children need time and space away from family life in order to pay closer attention to homework, teachers’ instructions, and organizing long term projects. Hiring me as a tutor will not only carve out important space in your child’s schedule for grounding their academic life, but it will equip them with organizational and executive functioning skills that will serve them throughout the rest of their lives.
As a tutor, I help set personal goals for you and your child in order to give your child ownership of their homework assignments. I develop a personal relationship of trust and partnership with your child, and prepare lessons with the specific needs of your child in mind, especially if your child has a learning disability.
Customized approach
With your permission, before beginning tutoring, I would like to have a conference with your child’s homeroom teacher to review your child’s most recent term, including ongoing learning issues and challenges. I would also ask to see examples of your child’s schoolwork to get a better idea of their strengths and weaknesses in order to customize my approach.
Keeping the lesson plans and goals very very simple, I have a keen sense of whether or not your child is understanding the material they are asked to read and write. My goal is for your child to gain organizational skills, particularly in the context of term projects. Through a multi-sensory approach, I help children gain confidence in their abilities as independent workers, equipping them with an array of tools to effectively tackle schoolwork with a sense of pride and competency.
Results
Over time, you will see steady improvements in your child’s learning process, including:
Ownership of class assignments, with the aid of a customized schedule that the student and I will create together
Confidence in his/her ability as an independent worker
Improved organizational skills
Setting of realistic academic and daily goals
Development of inner strength to succeed
